What is the catch with the challenge deposit?

On One-Step and Two-Step, the deposit comes back with your first payout, so passing costs you nothing.

Zero-Step has no deposit. You pay a challenge fee, which is not refundable once you activate the challenge. That is the trade-off for the fastest route: one trading day and no verification phase.
